I’ve received great care from the Portland VA. The only problems that I’ve had is in getting the approval for a referral to a specialist outside the VA and the wait times for appointments are starting to take a little longer.

Nothing but the best of care or service at this facility. Helpful staff from the folks cleaning the floors to the nurses abs doctors. Busy place but everyone seems to move right along so no complaints here!!!! Just get there early to find a parking place in the multi level parking garage!

I’ve had service at several VA locations, and the Portland VA is the best I’ve seen, hands down. The staff seems to genuinely care and try to provide the best possible service, a welcome change from my Seattle experiences.

Wow – could getting an operation be any better? If you have to do it – here is the place.\nWhat an incredible job from the top surgeon on down to the fellow who checked us in. You are So taken care of. SO given kind and courteous/thoughtful attention. They have a lovely sense of humor to lighten it all up and a lovely facility.\nI can’t imagine a more pleasant experience if you have to go through medical treatment.\nThey also treated my friend’s prostate cancer the same way – and he has been great ever since the surgery and treatments.\nGo VA Hospital – with yo bad self! 🙂

Not bad for being a VA hospital I have definitely been to a lot worse. If you are new to the VA it can be kinda overwhelming and confusing but after a couple times it is actually pretty efficient. I can’t really complain about it. They went out of their way to set up more than one appointment while I am here. The doctors obviously care about the quality of care they give each patient. But I am ready to go home.

I’d give it a minus if I could. Portland Oregon VA hospital is the worst in the nation.. If your 15 min late for an appt they cancel it… but they can make you wait in the germ pond for well over 2 hours to be seen at your scheduled appt… then it always take at least 2 hours to get your travel pay… The logistical staff members are the rudest group of assholes I’ve ever encountered at a hospital…. \nEvery experience at the portland oregon va medical center is a new experience in the SUCK!!!!! Always get the shitty treatment there….. \nMy recommendation is to die on the streets or find a different hospital for your ailments. …..

Hands down, THE NICEST VA HOSPITAL I’VE EVER BEEN TO!

You can get up here via car or bus, but the best part is if you take the Sky tram up here from OHSU Health Center. The OHSU is connected to the VA Center too. The cost is $5 one way going up or down, but well worth the breath taking views.

During the day, there are medical personnel running around assisting veterans get their prescriptions and needs checked out.

After hours, they have Bingo Night for veterans!

Service here was very quick and the people here are super friendly!

Quality and consistent healthcare. And invaluable resource for any vet. So long as you can make your way through the paperwork, you are good to go.

Ok…VA hospitals are notorious for being places that no veteran wishes he/she may have to visit unless absolutely necessary, but I feel like the Portland VA Medical Center is changing that. I have been to several VA clinics and hospitals, and this one is by far the most inviting and seemingly organized facility that I have experienced.

My review is largely based on my visit with the VA Women’s Health Center located just across the street from the main hospital. The clinic is very clean and they have so much literature and information available to patients it is unreal. In the event there is a line at the check-in window you have the option of signing in on a kiosk using your VA card or SSN, which is nice if that’s really all you need to do before being seen since it can get pretty busy. The staff is also very professional and pleasant.

I have only been into the main area of the hospital to use the pharmacy as well as Enrollment. If you need to see Enrollment for anything and would like to get in and out in less than two hours, I suggest getting here fairly early in the morning, between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Otherwise, you will need to draw a number and wait for it on the overhead screen which could take FOREVER. That aside, I needed to visit Enrollment to update my information (how the &[email protected]# did my records show the wrong birthdate?!) and I was able to go in and do so fairly quickly. Don’t get mad if the person serving you isn’t just bursting at the seams with rainbows and unicorns – you’re a veteran, you remember how civilians/veterans on post treated you when you were in the military – get over it.

I loved the coffee bar and vending/cafeteria area here because normally food prices are VERY jacked up in hospitals, not to mention other hospitals that share this ol’ hill in Portland.

Four stars to this place for making a definite and much-needed improvement to my perception of VA healthcare. One star subtracted only due to the fact that when I was in the pharmacy waiting area there were some VERY ill-sounding and appearing people here and there were no masks available for them to wear to prevent spreading it to anybody else in their 10-foot radius.

This is the coolest hospital area I have ever visited. Though there is a car or walk option to get there, the sky tram is definitely the coolest option. It is a little peculiar that they would put a hospital on top of a huge hill like this which is not easily accessible if someone had an urgent need to be at the hospital.

The tram runs there pretty frequently throughout the day. It seemed like every 10 minutes running cycle on that Saturday we were there. We got up there on a clear day to see the view of Portland. It was amazing!

Once you disembark from the tram at the top, you go through some glass doors and then to a side door onto the observation deck. So there is no need to even enter the hospital if you are only there for the view. There is also a cafe attached to the deck if you want to grab snacks or sodas.

I have had several very serious conditions treated at the Portland VA Medical Center. I feel obligated to say that the entire facility is modern, clean, efficient, and staffed by a group of wonderfully caring and professional individuals. Perhaps it should be said that for the common cold perhaps the care is lacking – BUT when it is literally life or death, this place is the best.

As Coastal residents, we’ve driven long-distance to the Portland VA several times over the past five years, and also have extensive experience with the Las Vegas VA system. The Portland VA campus is huge and encompasses a wide radius of VA patients. We’ve always had very good experiences with the Portland Medical Center and Clinics. All staff members friendly and respectful. The hospital is clean and we appreciate the coffee bar, cafeteria and the tram. Parking can be confusing but then, it’s a gigantic place. My husband had to be referred out to OHSU on one occasion due to the backup but we were also pleased with that outcome. We are grateful for the shared campus and collaboration with OHSU.

The VA Healthcare is definitely not a perfect system and my husband is fortunate that his healthcare issues are minor compared to many other people. In reflection of my memories of the VA in Kansas City in the 1980s, it was horrific but my friend there said things have greatly improved. It’s happening but not fast enough for the influx of vets needing quality care. We will all agree that alternatives are needed for care from outside providers. I think this will eventually happen but in the meantime, we are satisfied with the Portland VA Healthcare system. As an ending comment, we appreciate MyHealthVet online and use it frequently.

I have had very good dealings with the Portland VA system. First off I applied for disability there in 2003 and went to the regional office there in Portland and they helped me apply and not even 3 months later I got 80% disability. I then started going to the Medical center in Portland. Over all a very good experience with them. I did have 1 mean nurse after I had surgery but other than that everything has been pleasant. The Drs really try and help you and seem to really care about the veterans.

Got help with my application from a Clackamas County Veterans Service Officer in October. I had a file # in 9 days, and had 4 appointments (3 C&P) within a month. I got a 30% service-connected rating in Dec & my 1st check in Jan. I got top-of-the-line hearing aids in Mar. My psych NP changed 1 of my meds that had been exacerbating sleep problems. My primary care physician & Psych NP are 8 minutes from home, at the West Lynn outpatient clinic.
