I accompanied my grandpa to an appointment in neurology. The parking lot was very full, and we had to walk a great distance to the building. Once we were inside the building we had to walk further down a maze of winding halls and to the elevators. The place is a labyrinth, and I was very worried about my grandparents because they both have trouble walking; my grandma has a heart condition for goodness sakes. My grandpa’s papers didn’t seem to indicate where neurology was located and we had to ask around before we finally found the waiting room. They tell you to be half an hour early to your appointment, but that just seems ridiculous when they are never on time and have you wait and wait. He checked in, we waited. He had his blood pressure taken, we waited and waited and waited. Then, finally my grandpa is called in, only to discover we had waited an extra hour because the ‘English-as-a-second-language’ doctor had called the wrong name, failing miserably actually because she kept calling, ‘Favan, Favan’. My grandpa’s name is Powell, nothing like ‘Favan’. So he gets into his appointment only to be informed that the results for his previous tests were negative. Which I guess is good news, but COME ON! This could have been done over phone, or email, or literally any other method of communication that did not require a waste of time and resources. No, no, i just think Vets (especially those who are older and hard of hearing) should be treated a bit better.

I spent the night at this hospital on Friday and was discharged on Saturday. It was the best hospital experience that I have ever had. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I was checked in late, as I had a accident late in the day and it was past meal time when I made it to the room. One of the staff in the emergency room provide me with packs of peanut cracker and one of the nurse on the floor searched and searched for a vending machine that sold Coke products. She apologized for bring back a Pepsi that she had paid for with her own money.

The doctors were very helpful and explained everything fully, answering all of my questions. My last shift nurse, Mary, was very detailed in my discharge and went above and beyond.

I’m not sure what I would have done without these people. As far as I am concerned, the Memphis VA hospital rocks!!!!

My father has been sitting here hurting for a week I’ve I finally got him to see his Dr which her name is Curtis she’s an awful Dr not the first time with issues with her or the VA . I finally got him a appointment with her and she sends him to get a CT Scan he gets to where they give CT Scan and they tell him they can’t do a CT Scan it will be about a month so he goes back to see Dr. Curtis to let her know what they said she’s gone for the day just tossed his ass right to the side and high tailed it out of there, well he’s still hurting and nothing done. My kids will not fight for a country that just tosses them to the side our government needs to change I thought Trump would fix things but he’s not doing shit either it seems like!!!!

If you have a death wish go here. Just had 3 year anniversary of this place working hard to kill me twice in a month. If not for real doctors in real medical facilities I would be dead.

Been a patient for 9 years now and I have to say I never received such poor health care as I have at the Memphis VA Medical Center.

Avoid this place at all costs. You will be dead before you get the medical attention you need.

My primary care refused to give me blood work for my thyroid that I requested. My meds weren’t working and she told me I was just overreacting. I tried to tell her my symptoms were getting worse. She asked which ones. Among others I listed dizziness. She didn’t seem too concerned until I reminded her that I rely on myself to drive anywhere. She she threatened to call DMV and have my licensed revoked if my dizzy spell were “really that bad. I’ll bet they aren’t. ARE THEY?” I switched PCP.

Administrative nightmare. Seem to make up the rules as they go along; you can’t possibly get the same answer to the same question more than once.

Twice in one month malpractice by unlicensed students caused life shortening (would have killed me but for real doctors away from the va) damage. There is no respect for veterans. Held me while staff assaulted my wife. Filed and all of a sudden records were lost them found changed.

Forgot to mention the parking. There are two large lots, one on each side of the hospital and they are generally always full. I often have to pay to park locally and walk 2 or 3 blocks to the hospital. So I had to keep that in mind when planning my drive and timing to make my appointments.

I was outpatient at this center for nearly 10 years and was assigned to the Coppers clinic. The hospital has most all services one might need from podiatry to x-ray to ultrasound to orthopedics. In most cases my appointments were on time with no more than a short wait. The exception was Orthopedics, they were always backed up, often 1 hour or more. The staff was generally supportive, the professional staff for sure, a few of the clerical not so much. Unlike my situation, I believe it has been harder to get into the system over the last few years. I have seen people waiting for eligibility, intake or urgent care for hours.
